Cavadors and Camping – would you??

Well we have for three years in a row now and I can attest that Cavadors camp really well! We visit a fabulous site in Dorset every year called EWELEAZE FARM which loves animals. We always go in a big group and all four families have two daughters and at least one dog – who are also all male!

Louis loves that fact that he has all of us all of the time for the holiday and that we all sleep together and he is not left out! We generally leave him on a long tie out cable so that he can wander about our own site without actually bothering anyone else as I don’t think he would be able to resist another tents bacon breakfast for long!

We love to laze about on site, taking hours over breakfast and then sliding easily into a cider lunch. Afternoons we ramble across the headland to a pub called The Smugglers Inn which is about 2 miles and we get back in time for sunset and a cook out over an open fire along with a raucous old sing song.

In the wig-wag gang we have our Cavador, a pair of Cockadors, a Cockapoo, a Pooschon and a very exotic Chiuwawa cross Pomeranian (oh and early on we had a visit from some friends with a golden retriever puppy). Then there is Jerry. We have no idea what he is but in festival terms he is very much the Bob Geldof of the camp.

Sometimes the dogs do act as a pack – someone walking a bit close to our camp with several dogs can arouse a chorus of barks from them all which can be a little un-nerving I guess but from our point of view it means that we don’t get people pitching right on top of us which we prefer! The dogs also don’t mess within the camp either which helps when you have barefooted kids running everywhere. Infact it is the other animals that wander freely around the entire campsite (Alpacas, sheep, miniature ponies and goats) who create the mess – marauding through encampments!

Louis is stick and stone obsessed and will spend hours on the beach finding a stone, picking up stone, burying stone, digging up stone, barking at stone…repeat. He is also a water dog so loves swimming and as Eweleaze has it’s very own beach with access from the site which allows dogs we have had some wonderful days on the beach with him swimming in the sea with the girls.

If you like camping and you are after a really chilled site then this place is heaven. All the space in the world with fantastic views and the most fabulous sunsets. The children get great freedom and we don’t see them for hours on end – returning when they are hungry!

The dogs love having us with them all the time. Every now and then we did have a morning chorus of early barking if someone decided to walk past our encampment a bit close but generally Louis slept happily in his bed next to us (we have a double height air bed which we managed to keep him off of). At home he is not allowed upstairs in the bedroom so this is real treat for him!

The odd bit of food snaffling goes without question as kids leave their plates on the grass but with so much exercise every day we tend to turn a blind eye to the dogs making the most of the opportunities.

I guess not all campsites are the same and we got very lucky with Eweleaze as it suits all of our needs but we can highly recommend taking your Cavador camping!
